Self Regional Healthcare joins Southeastern Health Partners

Self Regional Healthcare has joined Southeastern Health Partners (SEHP), a network that helps provide patients with access to the best quality care, while also reducing healthcare costs by helping sick patients stay healthier and keeping healthy patients well.

Self Regional Healthcare joins AnMed Health, Bon Secours St. Francis, and Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System as a founding member of the organization. Launched in 2017, the collaboration has grown to include more than 13 hospitals and over 2,500 providers.

“Self Regional Healthcare is excited to join Southeastern Health Partners. We feel SEHP is a good fit for our system and shares our vision for the future of health care in our region of South Carolina,” said Self Regional President and CEO Jim Pfeiffer.

Southeastern Health Partners brings each healthcare system’s technology and best practices together through coordinated care for patients throughout the Upstate. This clinically integrated network supports doctors and their care teams by making sure they have the most up-to-date information about each patient’s health and care. For patients, this means doctors communicate more effectively with each other, avoiding duplicate tests and answering the same questions.

“The member healthcare organizations share similar goals to both contain healthcare costs and improve health outcomes in the communities we serve,” Pfeiffer said. “We look forward to collaborating with other innovative and service-focused organizations as we share ideas and learn from each other along our shared journey.”

In its first year of operation, Southeastern Health Partners became the largest Medicare Shared Savings Program Accountable Care Organization in South Carolina – based on the total number of Medicare members attributed to providers in the program. The network has generated more than $27 million in Medicare savings in the past three years.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services uses Accountable Care Organization and Medicare Shared Savings Program models to lower Medicare spending and keep the Medicare program sustainable for the long term. Success depends on hospitals, physicians and other clinicians encouraging patients to maintain their health through better habits – including taking medication as prescribed — in order to prevent unnecessary emergency room visits and preventable hospitalizations. “Southeastern Health Partners has been tremendously successful in improving patient care while simultaneously improving efficiency,” said Keith Newnam, SEHP CEO. “Self Regional Healthcare shares this commitment to providing the best quality care throughout the Upstate.”
