SEHP Generates More Than $76M in Medicare Savings in 7 Years
Southeastern Health Partners (SEHP) has generated more than $76 million in Medicare savings within the past seven years while playing an integral role in making health care more efficient.
SEHP provides patients with access to the best quality care while reducing healthcare costs by helping sick patients stay healthier and healthy patients remain well.
Founded in 2017, SEHP is a collaboration of 13 hospitals and more than 3,600 providers. Their efforts have reduced Medicare costs in South Carolina by more than $10 million on average each year for the past seven years, while also receiving an average quality score of 95%, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services rewards Southeastern Health Partners for improving quality of care and reducing costs, an honor that closely aligns with the organization’s primary mission.
Southeastern Health Partners ended 2023 with a savings rate of 2.5% on its Medicare population. The group’s success is particularly notable given its already low benchmark cost; SEHP providers already achieve lower costs per Medicare patient than most other providers.
Providers were able to reduce costs even more when Southeastern Health Partners formed, showing how financial goals can be met even while improving the quality of health care for Medicare patients.
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services keeps Medicare programs sustainable through the use of Accountable Care Organization and Medicare Shared Savings Program models that lower Medicare spending. These models help reduce unnecessary emergency room visits and prevent further hospitalizations.
